Québec’s Immigration Minister, Simon Jolin-Barrette, announced in an early-morning press conference that his government no longer intends to move forward with proposed legislation banning the use of “bonjour-hi” as a greeting in the province.

A senior CAQ official with knowledge of the decision confirmed to MJPSatire that Minister for Language Jolin-Barrette made the difficult decision to retract the proposal banning “bonjour-hi” after realizing that the common greeting might be replaced by “hi-bonjour” or “As-Salaam-Alaikum.”
